New Heart Foundation Walking groups have commenced in Bellingen and Urunga areas and are held every Monday morning.

Dog friendly Bellingen group meets at 7.30am sharp every Monday from the Prince St swimming pool car park.

Urunga group meets at 8am sharp every Monday across from the hotel in Morgo Street.

Dorrigo Bowling Club Event

WetlandCare Australia National Art and Photography Competition

The winning entries in the 2010 WetlandCare Australia National Art and Photography Competition are currently on exhibition at the Dorrigo Rainforest Centre, in Dorrigo National Park. The theme of this exhibition is Wetlands, Biodiversity and Climate Change and features 37 of the top entries including the winners of the open photography, open art and junior categories. The variety of mediums, techniques, subject matter and imagery in the winning works show the diversity of the entrants in the competition; children, adults and teenagers, expressing their concern about the future of our wetlands with their unique art and photography.

Situated on the scenic Waterfall Way between Coffs Harbour and Armidale, the Dorrigo Rainforest Centre has the Skywalk, Rainforest Shop, Canopy Cafe' and the exhibition space close to rainforest bushwalks and waterfalls, and makes an ideal weekend destination.

The Dorrigo Rainforest Centre is open 9am to 4:30 pm seven days a week. Entry to the centre and the exhibition is free.

Autumn is the ideal time to make those planting additions to your garden, orchard or farm.

Open 8 am - 2 pm, the Bellingen Spring Plant Fair has 50 nursery stalls with an extensive variety of tropical and sub-tropical, native, exotic or food-bearing, trees, shrubs, herbs and vegetable seedlings.

Native Plant Identification Walks, Information stalls, Workshops and Activities hourly, Music, Good Food and Free Entry make this a great day!

The Autumn Plant Fair is a fundraiser for the Bellingen Environment Centre and is sponsored by the Bellingen Community Markets.

Dorrigo's Creative Mountain Arts Exhibition

Dorrigo's annual Creative Mountain Arts Exhibition is a vibrant display of local art and craftwork, including fine art, woodwork, glass, ceramics, sculpture, fibre art and leatherwork.

The Dorrigo Plateau is home to numerous talented artists, many of whom are internationally acclaimed. Creative Mountain Arts is an opportunity to see this talent brought together in one venue, where you can purchase works or just enjoy the diversity of art and craft.

This year's theme is Art from the Heart of Rainforest Country, with many works inspired by our lush and incredibly beautiful surrounding rainforests.

Please join us for our opening night cocktail party and official preview on Wednesday 31st March 2010, at 7.30pm.

The exhibition will be open every day from Thursday 1st April to Saturday 10th April, from 10am to 4pm, at the Community Centre in Hickory Street Dorrigo.

Bellingen Music Festival auspiced by Camp Creative

A stellar cast of musicians will feature international concert pianist David Helfgott; Mark Walton (clarinet & saxophone); Niki Vasilakis (violin); Emma Jane Murphy (cello); Annalisa Kerrigan (soprano); Anthony Garcia (guitar); William Barton (didgeridoo); Claudia Douglas (cello); Nick Parnell (percussion).

As an encouragement to youth there will also be a quintet, the Windchill Five, from the Sydney Conservatorium and the exciting Bellingen Youth Orchestra under the direction of Ann Phelan.

The Bellingen New Energy Festival is an annual event, showcasing environmental innovation and information.

The program includes key-note speakers, workshops, kids activities, and live music - all around the theme of sustainability.

Community groups and local businesses will be demonstrating all the ideas, products and services that can help reduce our carbon footprint and lead to a better future.

Entry is by donation and times are 8:30am to 3:30pm.

This event will explore the emergence of distributed energy generation; both opportunities and impediments.

Community organisations, industry and government representatives will discuss a range of power options including smart grids, solar, gas, bioenergy, hydro, wind, low temperature geothermal and wave power.

Dr Mark Diesendorf, renowned lecturer and author on sustainability, will initiate the discussion with his keynote address. There will be presentations and discussion forums all day.

Lunch and refreshments will be provided.

Entry is $120 corporate/government; $60 community groups/general public; and times are from 9am to 5pm.

21st Bellingen Jazz and Blues Festival - 20 to 22 August 2010

The Bellingen Jazz and Blues Festival, which began in 1990, provides three days of live music designed to present a cross-section of jazz and blues styles performed by the best musicians available. The aim is to provide a program containing “something for everyone”. Staged in Bellingen, with its pristine river and historic streetscape, the Festival presents around 50 performances in thirteen venues over three days. The venues include the Federal Hotel, the Memorial Hall, Council Grounds and the Bellingen Community Markets

The spread and diversity of these locations creates variety and ensures a vibrant, community atmosphere. The town buzzes with activity. There is jazz in the pub and in the park beside the council chambers, intimate jams in small cafés, a welcome drinks party, and late night grooves in clubs. The hallmark event is on Sunday with ‘Jazz by the Riverside’ which brings thousands of people together to enjoy wonderful music and picnic on the banks of the Bellinger River.

 A Street Party will be a highlight of 21st Festival. It's planned for 5:30pm - 8:30pm on the Saturday of the 3-day event (August 21)

Local eateries and organised food stalls provide a wide range of cuisine, adding an extra dimension to the day and encouraging people to stay in town for longer to enjoy the music.
