Nature Trails & World Heritage
The natural attractions and features of the region are almost endless as the coast and valleys rise into vast tracts of protected mountain rainforest. Take the natural flora and fauna. You can spot dolphins and whales, see kangaroos, koalas, platypus in their natural environment, or see a flying fox colony in downtown Bellingen. The extraordinary range of birdlife includes kookaburras, owls, crested hawks, pelicans, sea eagles, and cockatoos. The pristine waters of the Bellinger run through National Parks, Nature Reserves, rainforest and rugged gorge. All of these experiences are linked by one of Australia's top scenic drives, Waterfall Way.

Dorrigo National Park contains one of Australia's most accessible and magnificent stands of lush rianforests, World Heritage listed for their exceptional natural beauty, diversity and conservation significance.Perched on the dramatic eastern escarpment of the Great Dividing Range, the Dorrigo Rainforest Centre provides a hub from which to plan your rainforest experiences - from short elevated boardwalks to challenging wilderness walks.
Dorrigo National Park offers a stunnning diversity of birdlife - hear the songs of the Superb Lyrebird, Azure Kingfisher, Eastern Whipbird, Honeyeaters and hundereds more. Picnic with Brush Turkeys or take the Wonga Walk to sit under the Crystal Creek Falls. The spectacular skywalk lookout takes you right over the top of the tree canopy for uninterrupted views to the coast.
Further west is Ebor Falls, where the Guy Fawkes River takes a spectacular plunge off the tablelands. In the nearby New England National Park, the silent charm of the Tolkienesque rianforest is enhanced by eerie mists and the dramatic views from Point Lookout at 1564 metres above sea level.
Coastal Rainforest Parks
Unspoilt beaches, sweeping coastal vistas, wetlands, littoral rainforest and pristine estuaries await you in Bongil Bongil National Park. You can go bushwalking, picnicking or boating, and the peaceful estuaries are the perfect place to paddle your own canoe and experience up close the abundant bird life that the park protects. The beautiful beaches are important nesting grounds for a variety of wading birds and terns.
