Bellingen Shire Events Network
Bellingen Shire has an exciting range of annual, regular and one-off events that make this one of the most livable communities in the country. Our events organisers are getting together regularly to discuss development of this events calendar and best practice procedures for these programs.
In March 2009, the Bellingen Chamber of Commerce, Waterfall Way Centre, Bellingen Shire Council and Ozgreen got together to promote sustainability among the business community. The first forum on May 6th brought together 40 leaders from business, government and the community to discuss environmental threats, particularly climate change and peak oil, to look at the strengths and opportunities in the community to respond and to consider strategies to make Bellingen a leader in sustainability and in a position to respond to these changes.
A second forum was hosted on July 23rd, the 2020 Vision Forum, where business leaders again considered these threats and opportunities and heard from some of our local leaders in sustainability. The group then workshoped the theme of 'how would you like to see Bellingen Shire if we returned here in five years time to talk about the changes that had happened.'
Do you have a handmade or homegrown product developed in the Bellinger - Waterfall Way region. We'd like to hear about it.
The Waterfall Way Development Group consists of business, arts, events and environmental organisations keen to showcase locally produced work and enterprises in the new showcase, Waterfall Way Centre.
One of the primary aims of the Waterfall Way Centre is to provide support for the many forms of community enterprise - from festivals and events, to creative livelihoods, environmental innovation, to manufacturing, hospitality and retail.
The Waterfall Way Centre is being realised for the benefit of residents, for our economic and cultural wellbeing. It is about developing self-reliance and creative enterprise in the community and supporting employment and cultural opportunities.
The Centre will feature a feature a small range of locally produced souvenirs and product samples on sale, as well as displays and listings of innovative and interesting products with information on where they may be seen and purchased.
